Korea��s per capita income stood at US$14,162 last year nine years after going past the US$10,000 landmark in 1995. There are two reasons behind the dull income growth: sluggish labor productivity and capital investment. To avoid the scariness of the healing process, people are driven further away from living life to the fullest. The isolation of a depressed person is standing on the outside of life, looking in.
But when the suffering gets too great, it’s time to make a change.
Why would anyone go through the scariness of the mental and emotional healing process? The darkness,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the old friend, isn’t so bad, really. The “devil you know” seems easier, our defenses are so reliable, let’s not rock the proverbial boat. Better just leave well enough alone.
As healers, we sit with those sufferers and know that we cannot just bring on the light and make it better. We sit with our clients’ suffering, knowing that the longing to be pulled in is as painful as the fear of being pulled in, knowing that each person’s healing time is unique to that individual. And we sit together with our clients, on the outside looking in.
Bring on the light. As healers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when we sit with people’s suffering,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], naturally we want them to feel better—that’s part of human empathy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to relieve the suffering of another so that person is no longer in pain. And,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], by proximity, neither are we. When Bill Clinton said “I feel your pain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” he wasn’t kidding. For sensitive people, empathy is inescapable.
That brought me to think of the effects of depression and of the suffering of people who are depressed, which is the subject of my this article. In my practice around the time of the winter holidays, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) begins to manifest. By February,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it is prevalent. Those clients who are normally not depressed become more lethargic, those who are depressed already become more so. The depression in the economy only worsens individuals’ cares and fears, resulting in a collective darkness of mood.

Imagine having the ability to interact with that difficult employee without conflict. Or, how it would feel to be able to listen to a friend’s sad story ONE MORE TIME, but hearing and responding to it from a completely different place than before.

You may notice that your mind often wanders (as often as several times a minute). Each time just say,"Be here now",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and refocus.
Try not to judge the experience or to keep particular thoughts out of your mind because as the old saying goes, “That which you resist, persists”.
FOR EXAMPLE: You're attending a lecture and your attention strays from the speaker to all the chores you have, to a date,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to the fact that you're hungry. As you say to yourself
"Be here now",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you focus back on the lecture and maintain your attention there as long as possible.
For example, try this short exercise: Close your eyes for three minutes and try to think about anything except cookies. Remember,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], don’t think about cookies. When you try not to think about something,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it keeps popping back into your mind. "I'm not going to think about cookies. I'm not going to think about cookies."
